2018 - 2019 APPEAL
The Nye Family of America Association, Inc.
Dear Members and Friends,
In the past, our annual appeals have focused on the Homestead & Museum and the mill. This appeal is intended to benefit the valuable building located in between these two, the Grange Hall, our meeting place. We are seeking $10,000 to re-shingle the north face of the roof, to remove an unused and leak-prone chimney, and to replace the decaying wooden gutters with historically appropriate fiberglass gutters. An historical side-note: the asphalt shingles we will be replacing are remarkable for their age. A bit of research indicated that they were put on in 1966 – 52 years old. Time for replacement!
The Grange Hall has a wonderful history of serving the community. Built in 1889 on land provided by Samuel H. Nye, this was the home of East Sandwich Grange #139 (a farm family fraternity) until 1991, when that dwindling group deeded the building to the Nye Family Association. Since then we have rented the hall to many non-profit, community and private groups to help pay for the cost of maintaining the building.
In addition, the Nye Family Association uses the hall in many ways – it is a great blessing to us for reunions, special events like Open House and the Autumn Gathering, the “History Talks at the Grange” series, storage and other valuable purposes.
We have made many improvements to the hall over the years: installed a new heating system, insulation, air conditioning and floor refinishing, to name a few. However, I don’t think it’s overly dramatic to say that all the above is threatened by a leaking roof and leaking gutters! We need your help with this one. We will be very grateful for whatever you can donate – please use the enclosed remittance envelope.
The hall is itself very significant historically, but I want to emphasize to you how very important it is to the future well-being of our organization. It is a super-valuable building to the Nye Family Association, so won’t you please consider helping us improve and maintain it?
Thank you in advance for your help!
